Domain Parking…The Basics!
-
Domain parking has had its grip on the domaining and web mastering world for quite a long time. However, there are some people (I am talking about webmasters) who are not too familiar with this potential source of income.
Domain parking… how will you define this concept? The very common definition of this term literally comes from the everyday normal understanding of the word “parking“. It is where you place your domain with your registrar or on your web hosting account when not active or not in use. So how can you earn money by simply placing your domain on a page where no one will know it exists or no soul cares to visit it?
Well this blog entry is not about this definition of domain parking. I am going to explain you another totally different aspect of this untapped source of income.
The first step is to register a domain name or get hold of your unused domain names. I would suggest a domain name that is understandable, pronounceable and at least contains a keyword that is renowned for being highly paid by the affiliate and ad programs. I would also suggest something that many of you would not agree! This is the time and place to use your misspelled domain names; it would provide you with a great source of “type in” traffic.
Find a parking program with a reasonable or high revshare and obviously has a significant number of positive reviews. You wouldn’t want all your hard work being ripped off by a scammer, right! I would suggest NameDrive.com, which is a highly reputed parking company with quite a number of positive reviews and very good revshare.
After you have chosen your domain parking company, its time to get all those technicalities out of the way. Sign up with your company of choice, point your DNS to the site, upload your domain and get down customizing your parking page. In some cases, the domain parking company provides you with a wizard that can create a professional page for you on the fly. You are, however, free to design a page according to your design techniques.
You have a parked website with a very attractive design.. now what’s next? Its time to drive in traffic to your pages. This is the most difficult aspect of this whole process. If you are using your misspelled domain names, you can expect some “type in” traffic without doing anything. However, this is not a very smart idea to rely on. You really have to do the hard yards yourself. Promote you parked site as you would do with any normal website. The only difference is that traffic to your parked pages will bring in $$$ more easily than with a normal blog or information portal. Easy here means that you do not need to create contents…probably the most tedious activity.
There you go… Build traffic and wait for your income to grow exponentially. Just don’t go out of your way and start apply methods that go against the parking company’s TOS or AUP. Its simple…Break the rules, you will be kicked out of the parking program and can forget about earning money from the “retired” domain ever again.

Add to that, I see many good domains parked lol. It’s annoying but people can make money off that.

“The early bird gets the prey”. .com’s are gone, but its time to cash in with other TLDs. The next big thing might be .me, but only time can tell.

I thnk,If you buy a domain primarily for parking. Most sites lose pagerank, etc., once they are parked. You can make a llot of money with a domain that gets type-in or expires traffic. I have a site that compares different parking services and shows you what to expect from each one at parkquick.com.

Great post, I finally learned why all the good domains are taken. I have to say though, it is very annoying, and I get pretty pissed at parkers sometime.
However, I think I might end up doing it because it is a good, easy source of income.

Good idea but it depends on the website owner whether domain parking is an option he wants to utilize.
Seriously it is a good idea to do this as during this duration too at least your domain would be visible and people could remember later that they had come across a website with “that” name.

I agree, just been looking around and found the domain ‘shiny.co.uk’ is an empty blog, what a shame. Could think of lots to do with that one!
