Nowadays, if you hear someone talking about online success, two things come to mind:

    1) Either the method(s) involve some degree of scam

    2) or it is all BS talk. :D

Rarely you see people nowadays being enticed by the sweetness of the promise of online success. However, there exist some truly legitimate methods that allow you to get rich overnight, literally.

Ok, not rich overnight (unless you are lucky enough to register a wonderful domain name), but domain flipping gives you a sure chance of achieving online success with the right approach.

Domain flipping business has been around for a while now and many people have seen it as a potential source for big dollars with the least amount of input. The most common reasons as to why domain flipping is becoming a huge side business is because of its simplicity, very low initial investment and the potential to make profits ranging to hundreds of thousands of dollars. And all this is usually achieved by just registering a domain and putting it up for sale. The rest of the process can be monitored from the comfort of your own chair, sofa or bed! ;)

Domain flipping has many approaches as well as many different definitions. While it is boyond my scope to articulate all these meanings in a single blog post, there are some obvious approaches that a large percentage of domaineers use in their domain flipping business.

“Register and Flip” method – The most common and simple domain flipping approach is buying off an expired domain name, or alternatively registering a new one and putting it up for sale and/or auction on various forums, blogs and domain auction sites. Sedo.com is one of the most popular domain auction sites used for domain flipping purposes. This method has its pros and cons. In a large percentage of cases, the domains are usually keyword rich, short and readable by a human being. Lucky transactions in this approach can involve thousands of dollars. The not so lucky ones usually make no profit…the domains are sold at reg +/- few dollars. One advantage that puts this approach ahead of the rest is that the time and input required is usually very little or negligible.

“Register, Develop and Flip” method – The second method that works for most domaineers is purchasing a domain name; usually keyword rich, developing a website and auctioning both the website contents and the domain. This method works out successfully if the website contains quality content, plus a “pinch” of advertising or affiliate intergration. The postive aspect of this method is that the site contents adds value to the domain, which allows you to fetch a much higher return. The only negative aspect, if any, is that this method takes longer than the “Register and Flip” approach.

“Register, Develop, traffic and Flip” method – For a patient or full time domaineer, this approach provides the highest proablility of success in the business of domain flipping. In this method, you register a domain name, develop a website and promote it. When the website starts getting a stream of visitors; preferably returning visitors, you can put it up for sale or auction. Depending on the target niche, this approach can be very profitable. “Register, Develop, traffic and Flip” method, however, does not interest many domaineers since it requires a lot of time, and human input in order to make a considerable amount of money. In many successful cases, the time spent can span to many years and decades.

Domain flipping is one of the most rewarding business a person can conduct online. With the right amount of patience, input and time, you can make a considerable amount of money and enjoy doing that. I have seen some forums and blogs mentioning that domain flipping is a dying business. Their justification stamps from the mindset that “.com domain is the internet!” Since its getting more difficult to find great .com domains, many people think that domain flipping will die out too. I do not agree with this theory. On the contrary, I believe that domain flipping will remain at its peak as long as the internet exists. Please do not be swayed by the unsupported arguments of these people. If you are considering an entry into domain flipping business, by all means do so….

Domaineering is the web-based marketing business of acquiring and monetizing Internet domain names for their use primarily as an advertising medium rather than as intellectual property investments for resale as in “domaining”. In essence, the domain names function as virtual Internet billboards with generic domain names being highly valued for their revenue generating potential derived from attracting Internet traffic hits. As with traditional advertising, domaineering is part art and part science. Often to be the most effective as advertising tools, the domain names and their corresponding landing pages must be engineered or optimized to produce maximum revenue which may require considerable skill and good knowledge of search engine optimization ( SEO ) practices, marketing psychology and an understanding of the target market audience. Domaineering generally utilizes a firm offering domain parking services to provide the sponsored “feed” of a word or phrase searched for thus creating a mini-directory populated largely by advertisers paying to promote their products and services under a relevant generic keyword domain. Occasionally content is added to develop a functional mini-website. Domaineers and some of those who advertise online using keywords believe domaineering provides a useful, legal and legitimate Internet marketing service while opponents of domaineering decry the practice as increasing the ubiquitous commercialization of the world wide web. Domaineering is practiced by both large companies who may have registered hundreds or even thousands of domains to individual entrepreneurial minded domaineers who may only own one or a few.
